GFS Forever Biography

GFS Forever: Nelson, Dedicated, & Markski, Backstage 2023

In ’93, David founded the group Good and Faithful Servants (GFS), named from Matthew 25:23. In the early-mid 90’s, the three GFS members met at a church in South Central, LA. They began recording, and performed occasionally together before advancing in other areas in life. Each continued in faith, life pursuits, and creative endeavors. In 2016, GFS Forever registered as a non-profit organization; and reconnected, recording and releasing new EPs even into the present. Their 2022 Soul War music video is a vivid representation of the group.

David Miles (Dedicated Disciple): As a new-born he overcame the doctor’s prognosis that he would not survive. But the loving touch of his mother nursed him unto health. Undergoing various childhood operations introduced him to the reality of death early on. By age 12, his new birth in Jesus Christ was confirmed. He sang in a choir since Junior High, and in ’85, among other eventually known rap artists at his L.A. High School, he began his beat-box, DJ and rhyme career. He met talented associate “Click-Tha-Supah-Latin” in ’91, and in ’92 with Click’s production, he self-released his solo album, Listen Up! David has remained a family man, civil servant, and GFS visionary.

Mark Santiago (Markski): began his various Hip Hop pursuits as a very young Bronx, N.Y. Bboy during the latter 70’s. His move to L.A., still as a youth in the early 80’s, coincides with the pioneer days of L.A. Hip Hop, wherein he forcefully exhibited graffiti art, street dancing, and trailblazing emceeing. In time, these unrelenting personal passions led to professional successes as a freelance artist; being sought out in ’89 as a lyricist for Kid Frost’s Hispanic Causing Panic album on Virgin Records; being signed as a Virgin Records recording artist on the Latin Alliance album; and a lyricist for the Barrio Boyzz, SBK Records.
His ’89 conversion in Christ caused some sharp right turns, including his walking away from a record deal offer from Death Row Records and Dr. Dre in ’92. Today, Markski is a family man, career professional, ordained pastor, graff artist, art philosophy author, and continues to emcee.

Donald Nelson (a.k.a. Nelson), was born in El Paso, TX and raised in Los Angeles/Hollywood since 10 years old. The seeds of poetry were planted by his 5th grade teacher Marjorie Briggs at Cheremoya Elementary School in Hollywood. This later developed into a love for rap/hip hop as he witnessed it being born. Previously part of the poplocking crew Star City Boppers then on to DJ’ing as one fourth of the D-JAM crew and finally in 1980 resting at the mic. He placed in the top 26 entries out of 2,000 in the 1988 L.A.’s Summer’s Freshest Rapper Contest by Wherehouse Records located at La Brea and Rodeo in Los Angeles. In time, some memorable moments involve opening for Tone Loc, Young MC, and Rodney O & Joe Cooley.
Nelson’s cousin Melodie Cochran relentlessly invited him to church every Sunday. Although he would initially avoid her, he intended to appease Melodie and visited her church, where he was moved by the gospel presentation, leading to salvation in 1982. Nelson remains a strong and creative lyricist/vocalist and devoted father of five beloved children and one grandchild.
